With the exception of the ECE Bimonthly socials which are open to the full graduate student community, the events listed on this page are for current PMP students.

Winter 2023 Events

All quarter-long events

Scheduled Appointments
Virtual – Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In person – Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Don’t hesitate to schedule an in-person or virtual appointment with John Nettles, the Assistant Director of PMP, at any point. Both in-person and virtual appointments are available. 

 

Drop-In Appointments – Virtual or in Person
Wednesdays, 12 – 1 p.m. and Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

What are drop-in hours? They are times of the week where you can come to campus or hop on Zoom to get quick questions answered from the Assistant Director of PMP. I recommend emailing me to confirm that you are coming to make sure that I am on campus and there is plenty of time to assist with any questions you may have.

 

ECE Bimonthly Social – In Person

Winter Quarter Grad Socials:
First Thursday and third Wednesday of each month, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Come for free drinks and light refreshments. Be sure to bring your passport or government issued ID with you if you wish to drink alcohol. Student IDs are not accepted. 

January

Before Class Cheese Tasting – We will set up a table in the ECE Building in the upper basement!
Wednesday, January 4, 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Come say, “Hi” with light refreshments and cheese before class! We will be posted up in front of a classroom with lots of different cheeses (vegan included) to taste and try. We look forward to hearing how your break went!

 

Internships 101 
Wednesday, January 11, 1 – 2 p.m. – Sign up here!

Come learn about the various steps of getting an internship. Some topics that will be discussed: how to find internship opportunities, how to decide if the internship will be a good fit for you or not, and what to advocate for when you get an offer. Directly following this event is the LGBTQIA+ in PMP Community Group.

Please join UW ECE Assistant Teaching Professor Sep Makhsous, Ph.D. student Kedi Yan, and current students to discuss conducting research as a graduate student and how to make the most of your opportunities while in the Professional Master’s Program.

Capitol Hill Neighborhood Exploration!  Must RSVP to come!
Friday, January 20, 12:30 – 5 p.m. (meeting at the ECE main office and will lightrail together as a group).

Authentic Networking

Preparing to network can be a lot of work and come off as disingenuous. We will cover various topics, such as how to network authentically, appropriate conversation starters, and how soon is too soon to contact people? In addition, we will practice “elevator pitches,” which are one-minute or fewer speeches on how to sell your skillsets.

 

Interviewing Tips and Tricks

In the U.S. there is a specific culture around interviewing. You might have several interviews over a few weeks or maybe they will be all in one day. Let’s talk about various strategies you can utilize, how to get prepare for you interview, and plenty more!
