Today, Matthew Clements is the lead administrative patent judge for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Silicon Valley. However, he hasn’t always practiced judicial law.

Matthew received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Auburn University. Continuing on, he came to UW EE, earning his master’s degree in 2003. Despite his rigorous engineering background, he would go off to Columbia University School of Law and receive his juris doctor. In 2014 he was the youngest lead judge to be appointed at the Patent and Trademark Office.

Recently, Matthew was featured on the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s list of “40 Under 40 in 2016” for his career accomplishments and quick rise to the position of lead administrative patent judge.

Congratulations, Matthew!
