Professional Master’s Program

The ECE Professional Master’s Program (PMP) focuses on cutting-edge technical topics and the latest university research, giving students the expertise needed to drive innovation. Designed for full-time students as well as professionals already working in the field, the PMP prepares graduates for new and rewarding career opportunities. The program leads to a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree.

The program serves the growing need for engineers and scientists with advanced degrees in the Puget Sound region. With a leading industry-focused curriculum, the PMP offers courses on machine learning, embedded systems, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, wireless communications, controls, mobile applications, electromagnetics, and microelectronics.

Why UW ECE?

UW ECE is a perennial top-20 best graduate school as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, and is the top electrical engineering department in the region. Students learn under the instruction of world-renowned researchers and industry leaders and are immersed in the department’s entrepreneurial environment. Technology developed in UW ECE labs is frequently translated into the business community for real-world impact.

Admissions

UW ECE enrolls students in the Professional Master’s Program once per year, in autumn quarter. If you would like to discuss the possibility of an off-quarter start, please email ecepmp@uw.edu.

Curriculum

The UW ECE Professional Master’s Program (PMP) offers flexible full‑time and part‑time study options designed for working professionals and recent graduates who want to advance their careers with a top‑tier engineering education. Students can choose a part‑time path—typically completed in three years with a manageable five‑credit load per quarter—or an accelerated full‑time option that can be finished in as little as one year. Full‑time students take 10 credits per quarter and complete at least five seminar credits, while part‑time students progress steadily through a combination of four‑credit courses and one‑credit seminars each term.
Whether you’re balancing a full‑time job or pursuing your studies at a faster pace, the PMP provides the flexibility, rigor, and industry‑aligned curriculum needed to deepen technical expertise and open new professional opportunities. (Note: F‑1 visa students must enroll full‑time.)
